IE file association problem

By Ravenhawk ·
I have a user who has Adobe Acrobat 3.01 and Reader 5.05 installed on the system (corporate standards - can not upgrade/downgrade). When she tries to open a *.pdf file from within the system everything works fine. But when she tries to open a file from IE nothing shows up. For some reason it doesn't seem to identify the association with the extension if in IE. I've checked the Windows setting (OS: w2k) and everything seems correct. Any clues?

Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing Reader? I know of someone who overcame a similar situation that way...

I've had problems similar to this before. When installing different versions of the writer and reader, there does seem to be some sort of conflict with the IE part. We've found that if the writer is installed first, and the reader (whatever version) is installed on top of that, then normally it's OK.
