IE not displaying correctly in XP

By steve.parkhouse ·
In Windows XP Home, IE is showing webpages without the background, like they've been removed in accessibility options (but it's not that). I want to repair IE but can't see how to do it in XP. If I can't repair, any other ideas?

One method may require editing the registry
Reinstall or Repair IE

1)Use the System File Checker tool to scan all of the protected files on your computer
a)Click Start,then click Run
b)In the Open box, type sfc /scannow, then click OK. you may be prompted for the Windows XP cd
Test to determine if the issue is resolved
The next step would require an inplace upgrade see Knowledgebas article 315341

To edit registry
Click Start,then Run
In the Open box, type regedit, click OK
Locate the appropriate registry subkey,right-click the IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value then click Modify.
To reinstall only IE6 browser component, use the followingregistry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383
Change the value from 1 to 0,click OK
Quit regedit and exit
download and install IE from the following site

You can try resetting the browser to the defaults. Open IE and go to tools and select reset web settings. Afterwards go to internet options and restore you security and other settings if you had those set to other than defualts.

IE also has a repair tool that you can try. Go to add remove programs and choose IE6 then select repair.

I reloaded IE6 - no help, ran SFC - no help. Then I discovered that it only happened with one user. I ended up building a new user and deleting the old one. Thanks for your help guys.
