IE4 Error

by avachon In reply to IE4 Error

Hi,
Page faults are typically caused by one of the following four reasons> 1. the virtual memory system becomes unstable due to a shortage of physical memory (ram), 2. virtual memory system becomes unstable due to a shortage of disk space 3. Virtual memory area is corrupted by a misbehaving application (intalled any new applications lately?) 4. Application attempts to access data that is being modified modified by another running application. #1 and #2 are the most common, but I suspect memory or disk space because you can't load IE5 which is just that must bigger than IE4. Look at the amount of ram in your system and the apps you run (e.g., it takes about 9mb just to open microsoft word). You don't say what operating system you are using, but I really think its a ram/disk space issue. I hope this helps.

The above answer is most likely pertinent to your situation; howver, once in a while it can be simpler. By any chance are you running a desktop application bar, such as MSOffice? If so, set it (or them) "off", then re-boot and try IE4x again. It has been my experience that MSIE-x hiccups over anything interferring with its desktop control.

Check user rights. This sounds like a permissions problem.

It is a pitty that you did not specify your OS. I ms os-ses the problem is probably due to the virtual memory misuse and to correct this you should simply disable virtual memory and reboot, after that you should chek that you have sufficient space and recreate the virtual memory. set the minimal to the amount or ram you have and the max to 2x of your ram. more is seldom better with ms os-s as they are not the best resource handlers. Let me know how it works out!
