IE5 address pulldown menu - sharing icon

By mrhorn320 ·
When a number of my users try to utilize the pulldown address menu, instead of having the IE icon, they have a sharing hand icon. When they try to access one of these addresses, nothing happens. Any ideas on how to get rid of the sharing icon and restore the IE icons?

IE5 address pulldown menu - sharing icon

by D'anno In reply to IE5 address pulldown menu ...

I recall having a similar problem with the MSIE title bar displaying a bitmap in the upper right corner that I didn't want (not the standard IE "world" or "e"). There was a key in the registry (i.e. titled "16X16" or "32X32" and it's value was the name of a bitmap. Resetting the value to the appropriate bitmap was the fix (beware if you're unfamiliar with the registry!). If you can't find a file association (Explorer|View|Options|File Types|Microsoft HTML . . . and edit the icon association), you might search the registry for the 16X16 or 32X32 key and see what bitmap is defined in the value.

Good luck!

I was having similar problems with IE5 and found that there is a bug in it and that once I installed the patch from the Microsoft site everything worked fine.
