IE5.0 can't find page/no internet access

By Millerlt4m ·
I use an isp to connect to the internet, then use IE 5.0 as my browser. I cannot connect to any internet sites. I have tried un-installing and re-installing my dial-up network, and the IE, the problem still exists. I consistantly get a dns error/ page cannot be found. Any help would be appreciated.

In IE, go to Tools->Internet Options
Click on the Connections tab.

What are the settings? There should be a dial-up network in the box. Is there?

Your ISP's program is supposed to set the settings for their own servers. If it didn't or they got lost, try re-installing their software, reboot your PC, then try it.
Make sure there are settings in IE. The default is blank (none)

Also, make sure you are actually dialed in to your ISP before trying to bring up IE.

First get yourself into the internet options area,(start, settings, control panel, internet options) under internet options click on the connections tab at the top. Make sure the connection to your ISP is highlighted and click on the "make this default connection". Next click on the settings tab in the box with your dial up highlighted. At the top of the page select "automatic configuration". Next at the bottom of the screen in the dial up settings box select "properties" and then the server types tab at the tob. At the bottom of the page a box with the protocol settings should have the TCP/IP protocol selected. Next click on the settings for TCP/IP and for earthlink select the boxes for "server assigned IP Addresses" and "server assigned name server addresses" and both boxes at the bottom of page checked. The other providers I am not sure what there settings should be.
Kind of long but I hope it helps.

The possibility that your TCP/IP settings are corrupt

Open the Control Panel,double-clickl on the Network icon

Click TCP/IP protocol,press properties
Make sure that obtain IP address is dotted, then click on WINS configuration tab, click Disable Wins Resolution
click OK

One other thing to try is delete the Network, then use the Operating System disk to re-install

Delete the ISP software and then re-install,also apply this to IE 5.0

Usually you pick up your ISP DNS server addresses automatically but in cases you don't.

After logging in with ISP from command prompt enter ipconfig /all

if their is no DNS address find out what it should be and manually enter into TCP/IP properties

Or whatever DNS servers you would like to use. As long as connected to internet backbone it don't matter what DNS server you use
