IE5.5 lockup

By Bobp135 ·
I am running IE 5.5 on Windows 2000 AS and when I first open up IE it hangs
for several minutes and then opens to the page I browsed. I tried
reinstalling 5.0 and it still does the same thing. If I try closing it, my
shell ( explorer ) reboots and then works fine, however I lose all my tray icons. Has anyone had this problem
and had it resolved?

Thanks.

I also ran into similar problems with 5.5 and promptly uninstalled it and reverted to 5.1, however I installed SP1 for 5.1 and that seemed to eliminate most of the problems. I also suggest to clear your browser cache and make sure you have plenty ofspace allocated, sometimes a small, full cache can cause problems also.

This is becoming a problem with IE5.5,becoming corrupt.I have reverted back to 5.1 with SP1,Open control panel, double click on Add/Remove programs,Highlight IE in the list, then click the remove button and select to previous version of IE.,then applyIE5.1 w/SP1.

This is one of the bugs in IE5.5,that has troubled me also,go to add/remove programs and select IE5.5 in the window, when you select and click the add/remove button you will get a pop up window, then select the restore to previous version, after restoring you can then go to windows update and download the 5.01 version with SP1.This should clear up your problem
