IIS in Win XP Pro

By jsolari020 ·
I am running win xp pro and wish to set my comp up as an FTP server using windows built in services. I have followed many tutorials and read many books but i cannot get it to function correctly. It keeps asking me to see if i have right to be in that server or it doesnt exist is what the message claims. Anyone got some advice for me? Maybe i should use another utility? I just thought why not utilize what you are given.

Ok, it is not clear to me on something.
Did you install the FTP server on your XP Pro box? It is NOT installed on XP by default, so you will need to add it.
Open the Control Panel ->Add/Remove Programs ->Add/Remove Windows Components
Click on Internet Information Services, and click the Details button.
Click the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Service checkbox.
Click OK, then click Next.

That will install the FTP engine (and the required files for IIS).

On your XP box, it will make a folder C:\Inetpub\Ftproot which is the default root folder for the FTP server.

When the install is done, click Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Internet Services Manager. That is the IIS snap-in, where you can set up your FTP server.

Did you do all of that yet?
