illegal operation

when I use my computer I get an error message Like this:

explorer has caused an illegal operation, when I look the details its say something about a "stack dump" and gives various memory addresses and mentions something about a "kernel.dll", sorry for such a garbled message I hope you understand and can help?

We'd like to but we'd need the exact language of the error message to really help. Next time it happens write it down and post again.

Illegal Ops. with explorer are usually very bad, if you can get into windows (or safe mode) you can try running the System File Checker (if we're dealing with win9 and scanning for altered files.

1. Start | Run....type SFC
2. choose "scan for altered files" and click start

if that doesn't work, or it's windows 95, you'll probably have to Format and reinstall windows...If you want to spend the extra time you can try to reinstall windows over itself, but that almost never works...I wouldFormat and reinstall either way.

Try using the version conflict manager in
SYSTEM information.Check for files that have
beeen replaced with older ones.
