illegal operation meesage

By mplourde ·
All of a sudden I keep getting the "has performed an illegal operation, ...shut down.." message. Even right after a reboot, I just try to print a word document and I get this message.

Any help as to what this could be

Compaq laptop with Windows 98

1st step would to be instal latest drivers or if they are the latest, re-install them.

2nd step would be to insert your office cd and do a repair on office

Good luck

Uninstall your printer then reboot and reinstall the printer but check for late updates to the printer driver first. That does not work try this: Reboot in msdos mode, go to your windows directory probably WINDOWS so type cd c:\windows. type these comands but press enter after each one.
attrib -h -r -s system.dat
attrib -h -r -s system.da0
copy system.da0 system.dat
attrib -h -r -s user.dat
attrib -h -r -s user.da0
copy user.da0 user.dat
the da0 above are da(ZERO)

Then restart.
