Installing Exchange 2003 on a Windows 2003 Virtual Server

by donovand . Updated 16 years, 10 months ago

I have run into a problem that I hope someone out there has seen before. I am trying to install an exchange server on a VM Server 2003 R2 SP2. The media I have is Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition. The host machine which serves as one of our two Domain Controllers is running Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition with SP2. On this host server, when I try to run from the Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition media at the command line /setup/i386/setup.exe /forestprep I get the following error, which I have seen to be very common
Microsoft Exchange Server has a known compatibility issue with this version of of Windows. For more information, refer to …… ?LinkId=37488.
Usually this can be ignored by clicking the Continue button. However in this case the only options i receive are cancel and details. The continue button is not active.
I am beggining to think that I may actually need a 64 bit version of Exchange Server 2003 just to run forestprep. Or run the Enterprise edition? Can any one enlighten me?
Thanks
