Installing Hyper-v 2008 Server R2

By Larbakium ·
I am a bit confused how Hyper-v runs on 2008. What is the install procedure is I would like to create new server?
Should I start by installing W2k8 Server R2 x64 on a server. After this is done I think I only will be able to access Hyper-V with Shell. I NEED the GUI. So I go ahead and install Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 as an application on top of the 2k8R2 server I had. Is this correct?

According to this document:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/5/bb50037f-e4ae-40d1-a898-7cdfcf0ee9d8/WS08_STEP_BY_STEP_GUIDE/Step-by-StepGuideToGettingStartedWithHyper-V_En.doc

It sounds like you are describing the procedure that is recommended. Refer to the other Microsoft documentation if you need further details.

Hope this helps... Good luck.

Hyper V installation

Hi, you would install 2008 64 bit, then install the role of Hyper V, lastly configure the space you will need to house the VHD's then create all virtual machines pointing them to the storage space you setup.
