Intermittent Permissions

By jgreer ·
I have a new SBS 2003 server with latest service packs. Its experiencing intermittent permissions on its directories. One day a user can access the file and the next they cannot. The primary directory grants everyone change access and then inside the directory are individual folders with security settings only granting specific users access. Any idea what could cause this?

I've heard of this type of situation before and hope to have more answers for you tomorrow. But until then, see if this article holds any clues:

Questions

Are these users added and listed as a group or as individuals within Active Directory?

If as individuals, are the permissions then missing or is the actual user listing gone?

I assume the changes are being made at the server. Is there a maintenance script that runs occasionally? Does this happen after the server or workstation is rebooted?

Are the folders Shared? Are the users connected directly to the server via LAN or WAN?

Unfortunately, I have not been able to come up with any definitive answers or steps to try at this point. Perhaps with additional information, I or someone else will come up with a resolution.
