I have a rather curly Tech querie …
I have recently encountered a similar problem on both a computer running WinME and also one running Win98SE, where both of these machines had lost ability to connect onto the internet and or LAN. Tried reloading the relative Windows on both, completely killing all networking setup and reinstalling, up-dating the DUN, stripping modem & LAN card drivers, [also tried replacing the winsock files,] and scouring the registry for incorrect / odd entry of TCP/IP ,dialup, & network etc. links … [as well as updating Internet Explorer]
I could eventually get the dialler to work and logon manually – but not one app. or browser could see the internet connection – some stating there was a DNS error. …
The only way to restore networking and dialup linking on the Win98 machine was to format and reload the OS … which is too severe a solution for general use (but, unfortunately, often too necessary).
So what I am wondering is if anyone may have encountered a similar problem and had a quick fix other than the complete re-install of operating system …?
