First time poster, long time watcher, slight responder. I’m facing a weird problem that I could use some help with.
Running an SBS 2003 box with 2 NICs, 1 gigabit and the other a 10Mbps. The 10 Mbps is disabled, and the gigabit is used as the primary NIC for the SBS box (DC, mail server, etc.). I’ve been experiencing this problem recently, where the connection to the network, and the internet stops working for about 10 to 30 seconds, and then comes back on. It’s not a switch, or external router problem since I’ve tried moving it to a separate patch panel. This is a problematic box and we’re going to be migrating to enterprise edition pretty soon, but I need a stable connection, because we have agents who are going to VPN in, and a flimsy connection wouldn’t do. Any thoughts?
On another note, would enabling the second 10Mbps NIC and connecting it to the network alleviate the problem? This is with the assumption that the gigabit NIC is having hardware issues and that’s why the network is choking. (Having 2 live NICs in an SBS box, to provide a connection when the gigabit goes down).
