By razali ·
I’ve 10 Windows 2000 Professional computer in my company. As the administrator I want my clients to use Internet in our network. But my budget is low. How can I accomplish this in windows 2000 professional environment? Any suggestion?

What I would suggest is some sort of DSL or cable internet connection (these are pretty cheap now), and you could then use Internet Connection Sharing which Windows 2000 supports or you could use Linux and have a dedicated gateway. I personally would use the linux gateway, as you can easily run additional software such as a caching proxy server, all freely downloadable. It's up to you.

Hope this helps.

I agree with Ian - DSL or Cable is the only way. If you do set up a computer with Internet Connection Sharing, and connect that direct to the cable or DSL modem, make sure you install a software firewall that is suitable for ICS (ZoneAlarm Pro etc.) on the "gateway" computer.

Using a Router / Firewall off a network hub or switch is a better way, but with added cost.

With 10 users, you would need a fairly high speed DSL connection.
