    Internet Exploer Options

    Locked

    by sillum ·

    Hi,

A site has made it’s URL the Start Page as well as the URL in the search bar, search page, custom search and searchassistant on the browser page (all these value data in the registry also as below.

H KEY CURRENT USER_Internet Explorer – Search url
-Main – search bar, search page, start page
    -Search – customize search, searchassistant

And all these value datas also under H KEY LOCAL MACHINE

I have tried to re-load both IE5.0 and IE6.0 after going into the registry and searching and changing all value data with the url I want and backing up the changed registry (run – scanreg)…but every time I reboot, the url I do not want is ‘back’ in the registry and of course in the Internet Options home or Start Page as well as the areas mentioned above. I cannot see anything unusual in the startup folder. I have run virus scans which are negative and I have cleared the history, temporary internet files and the Temp folder.

    Any ideas!

    Thanks

if you can simply un-install the program that put in the bad program. if not, then do regedit and msconfig and see what the item is write down the name of the bad programs (they’re in dos like prograbc or progra~b and change the word or dword valueto zero then save(delete if necessary) and reboot. NOTE: this registry hacking is *not* for the squeamish!! good luck, joe

      Here’s more information than you’ll need. I use Ad-Aware.

Startpage guard did the trick…it corrected all areas and detected the malicious program and killed it. Thankyou to DKippert and also all of you who took the time to help me out.

Have you downloaded any software lately from internet,it is adware to a program that application will take over the browser settings

You can change the registry settings but it will be to no avail, you will need to uninstall the software program, check to see what the url and other search settings are related to what program and then uninstall the software.

To uninstall IE use the utility IERADICATOR

DKlippert has many good links for you.

In addition to his tips, I would take a look at the programs that run at startup.

If you are running W98 or XP, this is easy.
Just run msconfig from the run box on the start menu.
Select the startup tab, and uncheck any suspicious programs.

      If you are running other versions of windows, you need to search several places;
      Stat Menu / startup
      sysedit (autoexec, config, msdos.sys, win.ini, sys.ini)
Registry (run, runonce, and runonceexcept keys)(searching on runonce is the easiest way to get there)

Have you tried within IE to go into Tools, Internet Options and setting your “HOME PAGE”. this should resolve any issues. While in there also delete the Temporary Internet Files and Cookies and clear your history. I don’t mess with the registry if I can help it.
