Internet Troubles with Toshiba Laptops

By ice77 ·
I am having problems connecting some toshiba laptops to the internet. The laptops connect to the internet but get an error when trying to pull up web pages. I have tried updating the drivers for the network cards and nothing seems to work. Any information would be very helpfull.

Is this the page cannot be displayed error? - Check your DNS settings if this is the case.

Is this home or work? - Home, you must use a router... Work, you must have the proper entries in your DNS

Dial-up or LAN? Dial-up, you must also configure TCP/IP settings for dial-up connection, lan - DHCP enabled on network and right DNS #'s?

Same web page? Can you go to a known good desktop with a internet connection and pull up the same page?
What error message are you getting? 404? 403?
>I have tried updating the drivers for the network cards<
Pull up a command prompt and do a IPCONFIG/ALL and see what your getting.

If your company has a proxy server, make sure the settings are correct. Also, check the tcp/ip settings, especially DNS. try different websites, the browser version might not work on some sites, but others will be ok.
If on an intranet, check if internal or external sites work.
uninstall (roll back) the browser, and/or reinstall it if it will not uninstall.
that should be a good start with the other suggestions
