iomega burner does not work

I have a HP Pavilion 4550Z and tried to attach an Iomega CD-RW 48x24x48x through one of the USB ports; the SW seems to install OK but when I connect the HW, the system crashes (blue screen)
I will appreciate somebody helping me with this matter.

is it the iomega burning sw? Apparently it is full with bugs. I had the same problem only without a blue screen but also with crashes. Try to use nero instead. And do check if the USB port supports the latest speed. 1.1 doesn't work. Check this first.

Dear Katakatta, thanks for yr answer. I should understand for what you say that USB ports 1.1 will not work ? please confirm, and how could I know if my computer, a HP Pavillion 4550Z has 1.1 or 2.0 ?
I'll appreciate your assistance
