IP over satellite

Is there any way to adjust the window size on the server and client to reduce the number of acks on a satellite network?
I am trying to improve troughput on a bandwidth limited satellite network.
The server is tunneling IP.

Check out www.dslreports.com. Go to the Tools page, and then to the Tweak helper. There are downloadable registry tweaks that apply registry changes automatically which increase the default TCP/IP RWIN (receive window) and MTU (Max Tranmission Unit) settings.
