It depends on your cable subscription and on the quality of the 5G signal where you live.
So run a speedtest on your (or a friends) 5G phone, both for WiFi (via the cable) and mobile data (via your phone, disconnected from WiFi).
Then you know. Can you tell the results of this nice experiment?
However, even if the 5G is (somewhat) slower, the cost savings (how much?) might make it the solution you prefer.

In my area, I use COX for my home internet connection and Verizon for cellular data with my Samsung S23 Ultra phone. I find that the home COX connection is much faster and far more reliable/stable than on the Verizon one. My phone switches from 4G to 5G, 5GUW and 5GSA from time to time, depending on my location. I have attempted to use the T-Mobile home internet with connection to the cellular network for data before switching to COX and never regretted the decision. The best advice is YMMV. Some folks may have a different experience, but such things are always local and can radically differ from place to place.

The answer depends on the “Where, When and How” you are using your internet.
I have assisted many that have attempted to use services outside “wired internet.”The top few items that have caused most to return to a wired solution are:
– Latency.
– Packet Loss
– QoS
– Jitter
– MOS (If using a form of VoIP)While most carriers meet and exceed speed requirements. Speed does not address all requirements.
Satellite – High download speeds, high latency.
Community Wireless – Poor QoS, High Latency, subject to localized weather.
5G – High speed but subject to be reduced by carrier, intermittent Latency, high packet loss.
Wired Solutions – Slower speeds (per $) but lower latency, better QoS, more “stable” uptime. Each carrier and regional provider vary. Test before you drop a good provider.

Great question! 5G can be faster than cable in some cases, especially if you’re in an area with strong 5G coverage. It offers lower latency and high-speed connections without needing physical infrastructure like cables. However, stability and data caps are key factors to consider—cable internet is often more consistent for tasks like streaming, gaming, and large downloads.
