Is it possible for a Win2k3 server to be crashed by a faulty Switch?

I have a strange coincidence of a Win2k3 server dying whenever the switch it’s plugged into stops functioning properly. The first I know anything’s wrong is when I boot up a PC plugged into the switch and I can’t connect to the network as the LAN card can’t pick up an address from a DHCP server that’s plugged into an ADSL router that the switch takes an uplink from. Then I try and ping anything that’s plugged into the switch which gets zero responses. Moving to the server, it’s still actually on internally (fans, lights), but the monitor, keyboard and mouse show nothing. There’s no BSOD either and no memory dump. Now I’ve had faulty PSU’s take down machines in the past but this isn’t the case as the PSU has been replaced in the last 4 weeks. The memory’s fine as well as it’s passes the memtest tests. Furthermore, it’s not overheating either. Just wondering whether it could be being taken down by some sort of DOS type of effect eminating from the switch, though the last time I saw this type of thing was on NT4 web servers running IIS during the time of Code Red.
