Is my sound card bad?

By Bull173312 ·
I have a Dell Dimension XPS T450 computer with a Yamaha sound "card" built onto the motherboard.
When I play a music CD the instrumental reproduction is good but the vocal repro is terrible (very low volume). I thought a better separate sound card might fix the problem. Do you think this is a good idea? How do I disable the onboard one?

I advise anyone who desires good quality sound to install a quality sound card.

My present favorite based on overall performance versus cost is the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

Before installing a new sound card, here is how to remove "most" on-board sound devices.

Start in device manager.
Right click on the sound card, or multimedia devices, and select remove.
Repeat as needed.

Shut down, and restart the PC.
Enter BIOS setup.
In the integrated peripherals section, there should be an option to disable the on-board sound.

Save settings, and exit setup.

Shut down the PC.

Install the sound card. (unless the manual says to install the drivers first)

You should be set.
