Premium edition comes with 2005 Work Group edition

though I believe you have the option of choosing not to install it.

If you didn't buy that then MSDE (2000), 2005 or 2008 Express, which are all free are your best bets. Try not to use MSDE though.

You don't want a full on enterprise app running on SBS anyway. If you have exchange, DC, IIS, print queues et al on there it will run like a dog under load.

There ay be an option depending on the version you are running to run SQL on a seperate box.

You could do that easy

If it is for small business a decent desktop with XP on it will do the job.

Has it's own issues of course, that.

Most people who buy SBS only have one 'server' type box, quite often it's just a bog standard workstation as well.

If you had to start splitting the load might as well go out and buy 2 - 3 decent machines and the full OS, and do the job properly.

Don't have a lot of time for SBS myself, just a box of weird and wonderful issues that are about to happen.
