Hello fellow tech republicers.
A new person here.
New in many ways.
I recently arrived in Canada, and as a student not sure of where I wanted to be in the long term, was unsure of where I was heading.
After helping the rest of my family in canada
To get to grips with the whole art of turning on a PC. Something just clicked in my head.
Computing and the General IT world is the life for me!
Still – Computing is obviously too vast, and IT is too general so I decided to really look at myself and see what specfic areas I could really see myself doing as a long, possibly lifetime career.
I came up with:
Networking.
Technical Support (Not the most confident voice, but I like to help people)
Administration.
Technical Training (I would enjoy helping people learn to use software and understand their computers more)
Browsing this forum a little I came to the conclusion that there is a lot of knowledge and experience here, and I was just hoping that someone here could give me a little push in the right direction to achieving my goals.
So far, I’ve taken a 1yr networking course. I’ve taken the A+ and Network+ Certifications.
I’m currently lining up to take the following:
Microsoft 70-270(Microsoft XP)
Microsoft 70-290(Server 2003)
And I’m trying to knuckle down and breathe enough additional networking concepts to take the CCNA.. or the CCENT (Not sure how relevant the CCENT is in the workplace, any info would be appriciated)
So basically I’m just asking for someone to critique my current thinking. I do not have any IT experience but would like to breakthrough in the industry, I dont have any IT or computer science degree.
Are my certification attempts a decent alternative?
Just trying to guage how solid my thoughts are.
Currently they seem good to me, in that it’s progress – But still I’m outside the industry, so there may be different thinking or respect of certificates from industry professionals and such, so any ideas/opinions would be greatly appriciated.
