Joining PDC across WAN

By mfulco ·
I would like to know the most effective way to add a Server running Windows Server 2003 R2 to an existing Server with Windows Server 2003 R2 across a WAN with a PTP T1.

Name resolution via DNS

by Churdoo In reply to Joining PDC across WAN

What do you mean by "add a server ... to an existing server ..."

Do you mean join a domain or do you mean promote to a DC for the second site?

Either way, the task is the same. Make sure that you have proper DNS name resolution across the WAN, i.e. that you can resolve server1 by name from the remote site, and also the domain name siteA.local. In other words, if you can "ping server1" and get valid replies from across the WAN and "ping siteA.local" and get valid replies, then should be OK. Otherwise your DNS is hosed and you need to configure properly to resolve the netwoek names across the WAN.
