My machine is a Gateway G6-200 Pentium Pro 128mb boot Win3.1/Win95/WinNT4.0.
Scenario:
My machine is up and running okay.
The electrical power goes off to our building.
When the power returns, my machine boots with an error
“Keyboard ? notdetected”
I attempt booting numerous time (actually powering off the machine 5 or 6 times), each time seeing the “Keyboard ? not detected” startup message. Then finally “Keyboard ? Detected” and everything appears okay.
This does NOT occur when I boot after properly shutting down, or if I unplug the machine while it is running. This only occurs when all of the power goes off. This just started happening with in the last six months, I guess. The machine boots (with the exception of nokeyboard) to the OS selection dual boot prompt. It doesn’t go any further, because I can’t select an OS with out a keyboard.
I have checked the pins and changed the keyboard. I tried to update my bios, but the only available bios from Gateway is not compatible with my bios version.
Also, I don’t know if it is related but, periodically my mouse and keyboard appear to hang and go off in to never never land (or sometimes just get really really really slow) for a several seconds then returnand everything appears okay. This has also been happening for about the last six to eight months.
