Note: This question is not for me but I myself reply by e-mail and send him the klez killer from norton it might have helped him or not but posting what he ask me about this problem here. All for 200 points.
Ok, here is another scenario…
A Non Profit agency that I work for got hit with the same virus (I believe), and I had the same problems with some of the computers. I managed to fix most of them, but I’m having a hard time with the last one.
It’s a Gateway 300 MHz. with Win98. I upgraded the memory from 64 to 256MB. I ran the scan from Trend micro?s website.
When I go to install Norton, the install terminates abruptly. I tried to go into Regedit to clear the registry. Regedit opened and I was able to start the find processlooking for Norton entries. But that also terminated abruptly. When I tried to open Regedit again it wouldn?t open. I got an error message saying ?Cannot find ?Regedit?(or one of its components) make sure path & filename are correct and that all required libraries are available…
So I installed the Win98 SE upgrade. Everything seemed to go great and after rebooting I tried to install the Norton Anti Virus the same thing happened. Same thing also occurred when I tried Regedit.
I scanned the disk, defrag?d etc?I went and scanned all the system files using the Win98 System File tool. There was one file corrupted Setupuxi?something to that effect and I restored it from the Win98 SE CD. It also stated that there was another file missing.
That file was Lzy1276.exe and I was prompted to restore/save it to C:\Program Files
I couldn?t find this file, either on the Win 98 SE CD or on any of the other computers that are running fine. What is this file?
I?m at a loss here, I needto get the computer up & running as it belongs to the Executive Director and she really needs it.
Any Ideas or suggestions how to correct the problems
