What is the difference between LAN $ WAN.What are the hardware components needed for establishing a high speed LAN using optical fibre?

A LAN - Local area network consisting of machines all located at a single location and connected by cables or wireless products.

A WAN - Wide Area network consisting of machines that may be spread accross the global (www) connection utilizes modems (300 - 56k, ADSL,DSL,ISDN, cable, satelite)

If you are going to use fiber for a high speed lan, I would suggest going Gigabit. I am not sure about your budget, but if there are no constraints you might as well go with a Cisco Catalyst 6500 (or 2 of them for redundancy). I can go into more specifics, but you'd also have to be more specific on what you want.
