Laptop Keyboard Problem: Some letters ty

By bhernandez ·
I have a Toshiba Laptop Computer that is having some problems with the letters that are typed. For example when you type the letter "s" you get the letters "es", or if you type the letters "w" you get the letters "=w". You get the same problem when you type the letter "e" or "=". This problem is not really related to a particular program. I tried changing the CMOS battery thinking that the problem may have been related to a bad battery but that did not correct the problem. Any idea where the problem may be located. Thanks.

I think this type of things may happen if your keypads circuit layer is either dirty or keyboard layout/IME is set to wrong type.

I hope this will help U.

Hello,

Three possible cause. Depending on the model, on older laptop the keyboard ribbon can heat up, and got ejeted from the keyboaord on-board connector. In most cases, reseating this connection will fix error. If liquid of some sort has been spilled onto laptop's keyboard. This will definately short the built-in membrane chip inside the keyboard itself...KEYBOARD need to replace. Worst case senario, but very rare, is motherboard keyboard's connector is bad. If your laptop is under Warrranty, do not tries to performed any hardware diagnostic to the laptop. THIS WILL VOID WARRANTY. If unit is old and has no warranty, feel free to check the connector. Use extreme caution. Various part, such as plastic cover, keyboard cover are very fragile and can crack easy. Also, do not work on laptop with power ON or connected to wall jack!!! Goodluck

First thing to do is open Control Panel/Keyboard and verify under the Language tab that it is set to the correct language.

Try an external keyboard. If the external keyboard works, without errors, your laptop keyboard is bad. If you're still having the same problem, the main board in the laptop is bad. If so and it's under warranty, get it to Toshiba, if not get it into a repair shop.

I have had this problem also with a toshiba notebook the problem was the cmos chip itself actually works out of the socket. After long talks with toshiba tech support on reseating the chip several time (which only lasts about a week) they had me send it in and they soldered the chip into the socket.
