left click c drive error

By marym ·
When in My Computer, I left-click on C-drive, it opens to a splash screen of windows 2000 setup CD. Right clicking on the drive gives me all the correct associations. I think this is a registry error. Any suggestions on how I can fix this annoyance,on an otherwise functioning system? Thanks in advance.

Ugh. I had this problem with a Win98 client that someone had attempted to install 2k on, but then quit.

I was unable to find any of the registry keys (did searches on 2000, etc) and in the end, had to decide between format re-install or live withannoyance. =)

They chose re-install.

The problem had to do with the drive associated with autorun. According to Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 153981:
"The Autorun.inf file is used with CD-ROMs to automatically run specified programs. When a non-CD-ROM drive contains an Autorun.inf file, AutoPlay is started when you double-click the drive's icon. AutoPlay attempts to load Autorun.exe (which is not present) to read the Autorun.inf file.

If the Autorun.exe file is also present in the root folder, the actions specified in the Autorun.inf file are carried out if possible."

I deleted autorun.inf and the problem was corrected. Thanks for your input
