Limit access by logon and computer

By elbmag ·
I'm trying to find a way to force certain users to use specific computers for accessing the internet. I'd like them to only be able to access the internet when they are logged into the machines we have specified. The machines we do not want them to use will still need access to the internet but only to users that have the rights to access the internet from those machines.

really easy in an Active Directory environment.

AD user and computers. open up the user profile. click profile tab. you'll see boxes in the user profile where you can specify a computer they can log on to.

Thanks for the response, perhaps I wasn't clear enough about what I'm trying to accomplish.

I want the users (all users) to be able to log onto any of a number of computers. When they are logged onto a machine we do not want them using for internet access it(internet) would not be available. When they log onto a computer that we want them to use for internet access they would be able to go out to the internet.

All machines, including the ones we don't want used for "general" internet browsing, should be able to access the internet (when a person with the correct logon is using it).

All machines need to have a gateway, etc so the machines can be patched and/or remoted into.

well with that information, your firewall devices and/or proxy servers [what you have for infrastructure] come into play. the "if this", "then that" parameter in allowing user internet access is a lot more difficult to configure. an "either" "or" parameter is far easier.

It appears that like inbound access through RRAS this type of if this then that policy is what your looking for. A proxy server that controls internet access would work well for this.

Group Policy will be way to go.

I would like to accomplish all of this through group policy. I haven't found a way to achieve this in group policy. Remember I don't want to block a specific user or group of users from accessing the internet. I want to block them from the internet only when they are at certain machines.
