Linked Server Error in SQL Server 2005

By syedali1975 ·
I have set up a linked server and on both the servers I have set up mixed mode authentication, still when i try to query the linked server I am getting the following error.

Msg 18456, Level 14, State 1, Line 1
Login failed for user 'sa'.

I don't know why?

Also I would like to know whether both the servers should be on same domain in order for the linked server to work?
Is there any thing I am missing here??

Any help would be appreciated.

Here we go

by syedali1975 In reply to And which is which here?.

I have serverA and ServerB, I created linked Server on ServerA by name ServerB_LS using ServerB.

When I try to run query using ServerB_LS linked server on ServerA its giving me login failed for sa error.

Do I need to have same sa password setup on both the servers?

Also when I query using my login which is having same password its allowing.

Apart from that I am just wondering how to migrate all the sql credentials to windows credentials so that I can use single password for all the logins.
