LinkSys Router Issue?

by rivetgeek . Updated 19 years, 3 months ago

I have both a LinkSys router 8 port router (no wireless) and a LinkSys cable modem. We have four PCs connected directly to the router – two of them on DHCP and two of them with static IP addresses outside of the DHCP scope (so they can’t be accidentally assigned). We also have a wireless router connected to it, where another PC (wired) and a notebook (wireless) connect.

Whenever one particular computer connected to the main router is turned on, we lose connectivity to the router and both it and the cable modem have to be reset. If I unplug the second router’s network cable, the same thing still happens so I know it’s not that. I suspected a bad port, so I switched that PC to a different port…still no go. The computer that was previously at that spot did not cause this problem, so I don’t suspect the cable. Once that machine is on and the router/modem have been reset, everything is fine.

Anybody have an idea what this could be? I suspect it’s something Windows-related.
