Locating and copying files

by blamoure . Updated 23 years, 10 months ago

In the past I have had several error codes that pop up after boot. Most of them are fairly easy to resolve, either by going to google or the knowledge base and retrieving competent solutions. These solutions usually mean extracting for example a critical file and then copying it to the c: drive.
Most of these files are relativly easy to find, however sometimes they are not so easy to find. recently I have an “error loading cwcprops.cpl, the specified module could not be found.(runDll).
neither the knowledge base or google seem to have a specified answer for this. I’ve tried to do
dir *.cpl searches on my c drive and my 2000cd with no results. Perhaps I am not either performing the correct search method or looking in the right place? Isthere a better and or more effective way of searching and locating these difficult to locate files? I would also be very interested in a book or electronic documents that deal specifically with how to locate any file or program on storage media. On this computer I am running win2k, your suggestions on trouble shooting errors such as this would be appreciated.
I could always do a win2000 repair install, but I would prefer to go directly to the problem if possible. -Ben LaMoure
