Log off plus restart

By bgabrenya ·
Running Microsoft sevrer 2003, would like our computers to restart when someone logs off. Is there a policy for this or changes we can make at each work station to incorporate this?

GPO Logoff Script

by Toivo Talikka In reply to Log off plus restart

Assuming that your user login have enough rights to do a restart, you can set up a logoff script and attach it to a Group Policy Object.

You can set up a simple test in a standalone PC running Windows XP:

Create a script file mylogoff.cmd with the following line:
shutdown -r
Copy the script file to:
C:\Windows\System32\Group Policy\User\Scripts\Logoff

Go to the command prompt and run Gpedit.msc. Add the script to Local Computer Policy - User Configuration - Windows Settings - Scripts (Logon-Logoff) - Logoff.

Trouble with script

by char0042 In reply to GPO Logoff Script

I get a "The device is not ready" error on the when the script runs the shutdown -r -f -t 0 command. I want an immediate restart and to not logout. Anyone know which setting is blocking the shutdown command from executing?
Loging out from an Admin user.
Thank you!
