Losing mappings to remote sever

By raharr ·
We are running Netware 6.X and are attaching with Win98, Win2k and WinXP. Sometimes they can login and get the mappings, but they lose the mappings after about 30 minutes. Or, they won't pickup the mappings at all. They have the latest client installed. The win98 computers seems to do better than the W2k or XP computers. They login to the local server with no problems. It is just the remote server that they map to that has the problem. I have checked other resources and tryed their suggestions with no luck.

Does anyone have any suggest that might work?

Thanks in advance.
Russ

Sounds as if the later clients are attempting to authenticate with Kerberos.

Are you using the Novell client or the Microsoft client?

My advice is to use the Microsoft client on the workstations and see if the issue is resolved.

Novell Client 4.9X. I also get login script errors trying to map to the remote server (sometimes). The login script is right and I can hard map. But after a reboot, it doesn;t see the mapping anymore and have to hard map it again.

Turning off unneeded protocols like ipx etc. (Netware uses tcpip by default from version 5 on) from your Clients Netware setup might help.

MS client will make matters worse.

If you are using 4.92 get the 7 Post 4.92 patches also.
Then configure "Scoped SLP" http://support.novell.com/cgi-bin/search/searchtid.cgi?/10059981.htm

and use "Static SLP" on workstations installed without NMAS nor IPX. The workstatioins will need "Scope List and
"Directory Agent List" in their "Novell Client Configuration"
