lsass.exe problem

By stuart.douglas ·
I have a Windows 2003 server which came up with a lsass.exe error and requested a reboot. Now the server wont boot back up. In safety mode it only gets to the login which fails soon after. Last known good configuration also fails. Any suggestions rather than reinstalling the operating system?

If you have another server that is the same Hardware you can copy that file from the Windows\System 32 folder but really you should do in Inplace Install to get the thing back up and running.

Even then there is no guarantee that the problem will not develop again as there is always the possibility of an infection causing this problem so you'll need to do both AV and Male Ware Scans in Safe Mode to remove any nasty problems.

Went down the route of contacting Dell who had a contract for this box but in the end they did something similar to what what you've mentioned. Thanks for the help.

Have you got an antivirus on server?
Check your system for viruses first.
You can do that with a bootable CD whith DOS antivirus.
Then you can try to repair the system using Windows 2003 bootable CD. This operation replace system files.
