Mac/Adobe PS printing problem

By Red Dragoon ·
My client is using a Mac OS 8.6. Whenever she tries to print a document, immediately gets the error message 'AdobePS cannot be used because of an internal error -30596'. This is usually followed by a message advising her to save her work and restarther computer. I need to know why this is happening and plain instructions how to fix it.

Much thanks

Mac/Adobe PS printing problem

The Apple knowledge base indicates that AdobePS version 8.5.1 installs a PrintingLib extension that is incompatible with the Apple LaserWriter8 version 8.6 driver. Apple recommends not using the older Adobe driver with OS 8.6. You didn't mention what versions were involved or what changes had been made before this happened. Possibly the OS was upgraded to 8.6 and overwrote the PrintingLib extension with one now incompatible with the AdobePS driver. We don't use the AdobePS driver at all anymore - the LaserWriter8 is so much the standard that all new drivers from proprietary printer manufacturers have been written to use it.

My client ran a Norton Disk utility, and there was some system file that was corrupted and could not be repaired, so another client sent her a fix. But I gave her the information you offered, and I think she's going to follow your advice. Thanks!
