Macs not updating DNS Server

By meisbl ·
We have a mostly Windows environment, set up with Active Directory, and recently it has been my job to add the Macs to the domain. Most everything has gone well, except we cannot ping the Macs by hostname. We can ping their IP's, their names are listed in the DHCP server, but they are not getting updated to the DNS server (the DHCP and DNS server being the same Windows Server 2003 server). Can anyone help?

MACs don't go together with Windows servers too well.

Only Windows clients and servers are designed to auto-register themselves in DNS. Even older legacy clients can be set to do this through the properties of the DNS server, but I doubt this is possible for MACs'.

I am looking for the answer to this problem too. I know that there is a way. Our Macs used to update DNS, but they stopped. I don't know why. Currently DHCP lists the hostname, but that info doesn't get to DNS. Please let me know if you find the answer.
