while moving a firewall/router (DHCP) and 2 switches over to a UPS i knocked 4 or 5 winXP clients out of our Win2003 server network. they could not ping the domain controller (or access it’s shares) while 20+ other clients had no issues…
i found this error in event viewer on the DC:
“MRxSmb event id: 8003 Description: The master browser has rec’d a server announcement from the computer EN-70BDK21 that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport…The master browser is stopping or an election is being forced.”
i got 2 of these errors. one right around the time i moved the switches and router over to the UPS, and a second when i finally restarted the DC to get the orphaned clients back online.
is there a way to force our application server (also win2003std, not a domain controller, but may become a DHCP server) to be the master browser for the network? does this make sense, rather than having a desktop (which could very well have been turned off) handle it?
