Master Browser

By mmbc_voltron ·
I have a new network and one computer has very slow access to the network. On the server 2k3 I get and event error 8003. The master browser has received a server announcement from the computer (the slow one) that believes that it is the master browser for the domain on transport netBT_tcpip_{c640ae99-aa90-4.

How can I clear the computer from being the master browser so that it can function on the network faster. I have tried a different cable to the switch and that still has no effect.

normally you get that message if a computer not joined to the domain is on the same subnet as the domain. Both browsers will say they are the master browser. here's a Microsoft KB http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;188305

generally is your remove the one computer not joined to the domain from the subnet, the event will stop.

You can buy a router to subnet out to resolve the issue.

Here is another Microsoft KB on browse issues

How can the computer be on a different subnet. I used ipconfig /all and everything is correct. I even did a release and renew. It is getting the correct IPs from the DHCP server.

I didn't say the computer is on a different subnet. you have a network and there is a master browser for the network. When you have another computer plugged into the same subnet that is not a member of the network, that computer will also say its the master browser because it is for itself [its network]{which is the same subnet as the other network}.

Simple fix - Go to the computer thats trying to be master browser - go to control panel - administrative tools - Computer Browser
Double click - change startup type to disabled. Problem solved it will no longer try to become master browser, you however leave at least computer other than the server with this option enabled in case the server goes down.

A small update.
You can find Computer Browser services in services.msc or Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services --> Computer Browser.

I turned off the service in my PC and got rid of this problem. Thank you!
