microsoft access table lock error

By rgraves ·
There are time when our sales force attempts to do an estimate and they get a table in use by another user message. We check and find that no one else is using that table. Are there any programs to check who is using the table and kick them off. Theestimate form is a fill in the blank form with a save function to get it back latter. It saves the various fields to the approiate tables in the data base. The problem seems to be random and there are times when it may last 5 minutes or all day. I need to know what user may be causing it and I need some way of clearing the lock with out being ther 24 hours a day.

Thanks
R.Graves

Search for *.lk (*.LK)files. To see who's causing the problem check the properties of the *.lk file for ownership. To access database delete the file.

Check your forms and reports to see what tables and queries they are based on. Be sure that only forms that are for data entry on the specific table(s) will be open and that they are set to lock the current record (rather than all records).

Examine all of the queries in your application and check where any that contain any of the tables needed for the estimate are used. This will uncover any "hidden" uses of the tables in question.

Be sure that menu and navigation forms do not have any record source (so they don't lock any tables).

Also make sure that the estimate form only locks the current records in each table, rather than all records.
