Microsoft Defender Antivirus and firewall 100 % clean?

    by Oblivion99 ·

New laptop with Windows 11 pre-installed

The laptop was only online for a couple of minutes during initial setup and when downloading software from Microsoft Store

Only downloaded software from the Microsoft Store

    Never visited any websites

    Before it went offline:
    Windows fully updated
Microsoft Defender Antivirus and Real-time protection on
    Microsoft Defender firewall on

    Done Full scan = clean

Would you trust, that the laptop / system is clean?

    Thank you

Apart from what a fellow mod already said, if you don’t think it’s clean, get a damp cloth and wipe it down. That will help.

In all seriousness, it sounds like you took the appropriate precautions. Worst case, format the SDD/HDD and restore to factory settings. Make sure you have some type of file backup/cloud storage.

        Same answer despite new info?

        Done Full scan = clean
I did that after the laptop went online

        And according to:

        Malware Protection Test March 2024

The offline detection rate is mediocre

But the Real-time protection was on when the laptop was online, and still on after the laptop went offline.

Would you still trust, that the laptop / system is clean?

I did not clarify in my original post, if it was online or offline manual scan.

          And according to:
          https://www.techrepublic.com/forums/discussions/microsoft-defender-antivirus-and-firewall-100-clean/

The online / cloud scan, is way better than the offline scan.
          The offline scan is mediocre.

But the Real-time protection was on when the laptop was online, and still on after the laptop went offline.

          1.
So you would trust, that the Real-time proctection would instantly stop anything malicous?

          2.
Because the Real-time proction scan uses the cloud / online scan?

          3.
Or what other arguments do you have, that you trust that the laptop / system is clean?

          Thank you

It’s clean because it’s yours. Given your interest in security I don’t expect any device used by you to be not clean.
