Hi there, I hope someone can help me with some ideas of the best way to migrate users from 1 domain (domain old, existing of 1 sbs server) to a new domain (domain new, existing of 1 2k3 server). The sbs box will then be re-installed with 2k3 and used as an application server in the new domain.
Everything that I understand is that you cannot create a trust between a sbs server domain and a 2k3 domain, so cannot use any migration methods that would keep user attributes.
I’m not sure if the best course of action would be to change the name of domain old to domain new, add 2k3 server as a member server, then allow replication of AD, then switch off sbs server and check everything is running ok before dcpromo up 2k3 server, and re-installing SBS server. I’m not even sure if this can be done.
One of the other issues that I have is that Exchange is running on the sbs, how do you copy the exchange store to the new server without causing conflicts?
Originally the plan was to create new domain, get server up and running and move everyone to new domain, but resaerching this seems quite tricky.
