Missing companyweb\default.aspx file

By chriss ·
First a little system info;
X SBS 2003 Standard machine, I used SBS conversion pack to split up my SBS machine to a windows server 2003 R2 machine. Everthing works fine.
About a year ago I started using Sharepoint Designer to edit my companyweb\default.aspx page. I started having problems about six months ago. I first notice I could not change or add web parts to the default.aspx page.
I found an artical that said if you use designer to modify sharepoint pages, you can no longer modify the site the normal way.
Ok fine, now I am trying find the companyweb\default.aspx file on my server I can not find it anywhere. I think the default folder location is c:\inetpub or \wwwroot. It is not there. It is not in IIS, where did it go? No problems with anyone accessing the site at all. I just can't edit the site.

What I don't understand is why does the site work fine but the default page is MIA. HELP
Can anyone point me to the default.aspx file or tell me how to get it back?

HELP Please
Chris S
