Missing drop down menu in Word 97

By nhughes79 ·
When I open a Word, the 'File' drop down menu is completely missing.
I've never come across this before and wondered if anyone could shed some light on this?
I've tried using altering the toolbars, but nothing seems to work.
Help!

The problem is easily rectifiable (if there is such a word!). All you have to do is:

* click with the right mouse button on the menu bar,
* select "Propoerties..." from the resulting pop-up menu,
* select the "Toolbars" tab,
* scroll down the list of "Toolbars:" until you see "Menu Bar" (it should have a cross or tick in it; if not, click one in),
* in either case, select (highlight) "Menu Bar", then click the "Reset..." button,
* You will then get a sub-selection box saying "Reset Toolbar" in the title bar, with the dialog "Reset changes made to 'Menu Bar' toolbar for:",
* ensure that the box underneath this dialog says "Normal.dot" (exclude speech marks), then click "OK",
* VOILA!!!

the problem is most likly the normal.dot.
first if there are any macro's in the normal.dot copy them to another template.
look in tool/macro's to see if there is any.
if not just rename or delete the normal.dot.
the file gets rebuilt when word opens.
oh by the way close word when renameing the normal.dot.then you can copy any macro's back in.
