What kind of computer are you using? Dell, Compaq, HP, etc. have recovery cds that will walk you through how to reinstall your OS and software. Set your boot order to boot the CD drive first in your bios, and try booting to the recovery cd. You can reformat your drives before you do this if you like to make sure all your system files are freshly installed. If you can't find your product key (may not be needed with the recovery cd) email me and I can send you a cd key recovery tool I wrote.

The restore cd should be automatically setup to auto run,when inserted in drive.

Restore disk is configured to re-install the operating system and programs on this particular machine

To be on the safe side go to web site www.bootdisk.com,download W98 bootdisk which will include the cd rom drivers

Make sure you back-up any files you want to keep before using the System Restore CD.

The CD will almost always over write any data on your disk.

Your additional comment stated "Max Data" and requested how to get the system to boot from the supplied restore cd.

Your system may not have been set to boot from the CD Rom drive.

To check the "Boot Order" of your system you need to get into the bios.

reboot the PC .. see if there is a message on your screen (top or bottom are the usual locations)

the message would read something like:
press F1 to enter setup
press <S> to enter setup
pres DEL to enter setup
(you get the idea)
if your system attempts to boot too fast, then just after the reboot, try pressing the PAUSE key on your keyboard to see if you can pause it long enough to get a screen display that has writing similarly.

If not.. you may have to press several keys after a reboot.. like first pressing ESC to see a boot screen, and then DEL or F1 or some other key ....

In any case, once you can get INTO the bios, you are looking for BOOT OPTIONS. It may be in a menu across the top, or under another sub heading.. in the boot options you are looking for it to allow
CDROM (first)
Hard Drive or C (second)
Floppy or A (last)

examples:

1-> Boot Order: C, CDROM, A

2-> First Boot: HardDrive
Secnd Boot: CDROM
etc..

you're looking to have the CDROM listed first. Once you've found your BIOS's boot options, read the screen for which key to press on the keyboard to CHANGE items.. (some are space, some enter, some + or - or even PgUP/PgDwn)

let us know....!!..

Some restoer disks come with the OS packaged on them to make the user have to do less during restore. If this isn't the case, Microsoft can replace the cd for a small cost providing that you can prove that you own a legal license for the product.
