Modem Connections From Europe

By scottf ·
Our sales team constantly travels to Europe, they also constantly complain about not being able to connect via the phone lines from Europe. My sales manager mentioned that our technical guy in Europe told him it is because the dial-tone in Europe isdifferent from the dial-tone in the United States. Could that cause problems while trying to connect back to the United States? If so what can I do to resolve this connectivity issue?

Thanks,
Scott

We have found in Gernmany that if select the option for the modem not to wait for the dial tone things work much better.

Scott,

The first response is definitely correct, and that goes for Germany or any other country which does not utilize the "US standard tone". As an aside, make sure any travelers to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, et cetera have a power conversion kit as well otherwise connecting those laptops (or workstations for that matter) to a power supply could be impossible or even worse, cause damage.

Hope this helps,

Nikk
