I can’t get a modem to recognise port 3. The pc has com port 1 & 2. Which is ok. have the irq for the modem. It’s just when I go to install the modem driver, it won’t let me install it on com port 3. When I uninstall com port 2, it only gives me com port 1 to install it on. It never gives me the option to install on a port that isn’t open.

You can use the help menu from the Start menu and in the window type in modem and it will give you options.
To change advanced port settings
Control Panel,double click the System icon,select the device manager tab click on the plus besides modems in the tree select modem and right click and select properties,select the resources tab,uncheck the automatic settings and now select the port you want to set the modem on.follow on screen instructions.

Didn’t help, but I got it. It was just finding the right jumer settings on the modem.

your computer probabyt only has 3 com ports anyways.. what can you just install it to com2.. if thats where the operating system, recognizes it then just let it go there???

It wouldn’t work that way. Got it anyway. Hit the right mpre settings on the modem.

Com1/3 = IRQ4
Com2/4 = IRQ3
As you can see you can only use either com1 or com3. And if com2 is being used, you can’t use com4 for the modem.

I suggest you check to see if anything is used on Com1. If not, disable it from CMOS and you will have access to Com3.

Got it. I found the right jumper settings on the modem.
