As a side note, some modems are not supported under Windows XP.

I have even seen motherboard - modem combinations that functioned under W98 but would not under XP.

If you have a name brand system, you should be able to go to the manufactures web page to find drivers or at least information on your modem.

If you do not know the make and model of your modem, you may need to physically look at the modem and determine who's controller IC the modem uses.

Then, you can download the "reference" drivers for the modem controller.

One source for driver links and information on modems is

does your window detect the presence of the communication card? Try to check it in the Hardware Device menu. If there is an error in modem section, you should try to reinstall the modem driver. However, for most cases, window xp will install the driver for you automatically. So, i think it's the configuration problem. could you give more info? wat you find in Control panel > modem?
